Signpost 2 Skills has been designed by the LEP to connect businesses, training and education providers to develop the workforce of the future. The LEP works with several partners to deliver Signpost 2 Skills. The focus of the work is to improve connectivity between schools, employers and young people and providers in order to ensure that our businesses can recruit and retain an appropriately skilled workforce.
We have established our own Signpost 2 Skills network of Enterprise Advisers to support the development of strategic plans for careers employability and business engagement in schools. The aim is to ensure that all schools have a robust strategic plan. The strategic plans will:
- Inform the LEP’s view of local needs so that we can direct our own resource and that of our partners and our network of careers and employability providers to where we need it most
- Develop a more proactive and focused plan for each school that will enable them to enhance the number of key strategic relationships they have with local businesses
- Support the brokerage partners and schools to identify where they should focus their time in order to get maximum benefit for young people and the school
- Enable schools to demonstrate how their plans of careers and employability is impacting on outcomes for learners and therefore support them to satisfy the Ofsted expectation around Careers and employability
This complements the work of the brokerage partners who engage with businesses on a range of activities such as, mentoring, work experience, mock interviews, talks in schools, careers and jobs fairs.
