Uttlesford & Stansted Airport

Uttlesford is a predominantly rural district in North West Essex comprising the main towns of Saffron Walden, Great Dunmow, Stansted Mountfitchet and Thaxted, with 56 parishes. It is geographically the largest district in Essex.

The main town in Uttlesford is Saffron Walden. It is one of the finest preserved examples of a medieval market town in the UK. The town is a popular tourist destination due to its history, gardens museum, castle and the largest and one of the most beautiful Parish Churches in Essex.

Home to London Stansted Airport, which employs 10,200 people and caters for 17.8 million passengers and 204,000 tonnes of air cargo every year (as of March 2012). Making an economic contribution of £400 million per year, Stansted Airport forms a significant part of Uttlesford’s economy and infrastructure.

Uttlesford also has many great attractions of its own, with the local authority looking further at how they can help to attract more visitors to come and spend their money in the local area.
